SHOCKING NEWS: Lagos Traders Cry As Govt. Bulldozes Over 300 Shops

As

Traders at Idimu area of Lagos, Tuesday morning, cried and lamented their losses, as government’s bulldozers levelled a row of shops alleged to be contravening building laws. The shops were erected under a pylon.
Stern-looking policemen and officials of the Lagos State Building Control Agency, LSBCA, allegedly prevented the traders from evacuating their wares before carrying out the demolition.

One of the officials, who preferred to be anonymous because he was unauthorised to speak, said the traders ignored warnings to vacate the shops.
The shops were said to have been erected by the Egbe Idimu Local Council Development Area, LCDA, and allocated to the traders, who allegedly paid N640,000 each. While the local council built about 243 of the demolished shops, the others were owned by private estate developers.
Effort to speak to the LCDA failed. Calls to Akin Akinwumi, the information officer for the LCDA, was unanswered.
The demolition is ongoing as at the time of filing this report.
