Chelsea star Eden Hazard and Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld both starred for Belgium in their World Cup qualifying match against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Friday night as the pair both scored in the nation’s 4-0 win in Brussels.
Hazard, who has enjoyed a revival in form since Euro 2016 that has also been seen at his domestic club Chelsea, made it 2-0 to the hosts following Emir Spahic’s own goal after latching onto a through-ball, skipping around his Blues teammate Asmir Begovic and rolling into an empty net.
The 29th-minute goal was Hazard’s 15th for Belgium and came exactly five years after the winger netted his first for the Red Devils on 7 October 2011 against Kazakhstan.Hazard’s strike also ensured that Roberto Martinez’s side took a firm grip of the Group H game, with Spurs centre-back Alderweireld then taking the home team 3-0 in front with a superb backheel goal from a corner kick in the 60th minute.
With Belgium firmly in control, Everton striker Romelu Lukaku somehow contrived to miss an open goal – resulting in some Belgium fans booing the 23-year-old – but the forward did make amends shortly afterwards with his well-taken goal in the 79th minute.
